Chapter 1: General Characteristics
Your fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).
Your "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if you are lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that you need to consciously develop that aspect of yourself to learn to appreciate and/or to work harder in that dimension of life.
Sometimes we overvalue the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following chapters.

You are prone to underestimate rather than overestimate your own abilities and worth, and through your humility, to settle for much less than you really want and are capable of. You may think of yourself as ordinary, dull, or unexciting for you do not like to take risks and you value safety and security over adventure, stability over change.
You do everything in a premeditated, orderly fashion and tend to be rather serious. The responsible, rational, adult aspect of you is quite strong and the spontaneous, carefree, childlike side of yourself is less developed. You can be "all work and no play".
Developing self-confidence, enthusiasm, joy, generosity, and a larger vision of what life is all about is important for you.
Physically, you are apt to get cold rather easily and may find that eating spicy foods, exercising vigorously, and being out in the sunshine to be helpful.

Chapter 2: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others
The following is a description of your basic stance towards life, the way others see you, the way you come across, the face you show to the world. In Chapter 3 you will read about the "The Inner You: Your Real Motivation", which describes the kind of person you are at heart and where your true priorities lie. Read this chapter and the next one and compare them - there may be significant differences between them, in which case "the inner you" may not shine through and others are in for some surprises when they get to know you at a more than superficial level. This chapter describes the costume you wear, your role in life, while Chapter 3 talks about the real person inside the costume.
Libra Rising:
You are a natural diplomat, reasonable, tolerant, fair, always willing to listen to varying viewpoints, and ready to see the other side of an issue. Even if you strongly disagree with someone, you will try to find points of similarity and agreement rather than emphasizing the differences. You often avoid taking an extreme or one-sided stance on anything. You have a strong desire for harmonious and pleasant relationships, and express a spirit of cooperation, compromise, friendship, and fairness. You very much want to be liked and because of your need for approval and acceptance, you are easily influenced by others' opinions, especially when young. You so much want to please that often you will suppress your own intense or unpleasant feelings in order not to offend others. Sometimes your politeness is interpreted as being phony or wishy-washy.
Your need to create harmony extends to your physical environment and personal appearance as well. You appreciate beauty and have a natural sense of balance, symmetry, and proportion. You do everything in good taste, with a sense of style and art. From your home furnishings to your choice of clothing, everything must be aesthetically appealing, not simply functional or utilitarian.
You also feel that relationships are an art, one that especially interests you and one that you are usually quite skilled at, for you possess tact and acute awareness of other people. Marriage is very significant to you and finding the right person to share your life with is extremely important. Being part of a close couple seems natural to you - you are not an independent loner. Having a partner increases your self-confidence. You do have a tendency, however, to become overly dependent on your partner and perhaps not to develop a clearly defined identity outside of the relationship. Finding the balance between being yourself and blending and uniting with another is a challenge for you.
Others see you as an agreeable, smooth, harmonious, and "nice" person. Though there may be much more to you, this is the sort of face you show to the world. You possess personal charm and an understated, noncombative manner. You seem quirky, unusual, offbeat and "different". Sometimes it seems you are trying to provoke people and upset the status quo just by being yourself. You tend to be restless, excitable, and somewhat ungrounded or nervous as well.

In significant ways, your emotional nature and personal needs are at odds with the way you present yourself. (Compare this chapter with the description of your moon sign in Chapter 4.) As a result of this inconsistency, you may be uncomfortable showing your instinctive responses and true feelings. You may put them aside, maybe even be ashamed of them.
When you are in an emotionally charged situation, those who don't know you well may be quite surprised at your reactions or behavior. The real challenge, though, is to completely accept yourself, so that you don't act as if your emotional needs and impulses didn't count for very much.

You tend to get excited easily and may act a bit restless in the presence of other people. Always in motion, you seem to come across like a whirlwind and have a constant need for different and new experiences.
Chapter 3: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation
Ascendant in Libra and Sun in Virgo:
Even though you have a tactful and generally pleasing way of expressing yourself (as described in the previous chapter), you actually have high standards and can be quite a perfectionist (as discussed below). Inside you are more skeptical and judgmental than you appear.
Sun in Virgo:
At heart you are modest and humble, and you rarely strive to be in the limelight or in a position of power. You have a sharp analytical mind, a keen eye for detail, and you prefer to observe, dissect, and study life from a distance. Conscientious and conservative, you can be relied upon to be careful, efficient, and thorough in your work and you take pride in doing a job well. What you may lack in self-confidence you often make up for in skill - developing expertise, technical knowledge, and competency in some specialized area. You are adept at using your hands to create or fix things, and meticulous attention to detail and careful craftsmanship are your forte. Some would say you are a little TOO meticulous, for you can be extremely critical and petty if everything is not done exactly as you think it should be, and you worry about things that other people consider trivial and unimportant. You like to organize, categorize, and arrange everything into a logical system, and you are often distinctly uncomfortable when something does not fit into a neat category. Disorganization vexes you. You probably wish that you were not such a perfectionist, for besides being a stickler for details, you can be mercilessly self-critical as well. Whether in your environment or in yourself, you tend to focus on the flaws, with a desire to improve, refine, and perfect. You are strictly factual, truthful, and scrupulously honest in your self-estimation, and you often do not give yourself enough praise or credit.
You are also highly discriminating and may be especially particular about your diet, hygiene, and health habits. You are an exacting perfectionist with a clear, logical, analytical mind and an aptitude for work that requires meticulous attention to detail and efficient organization. Well-grounded and pragmatic, you tend to develop specialized skills and technical expertise in some practical field. Knowledge, ideas, and theories don't really interest you unless they are useful in a tangible way. You are inclined to analyze, measure, and dissect everything and to miss nuances, subtle shades of feeling and meaning. Your strengths are in your precise thinking, careful craftsmanship, and mastery of technical skills. You tend to be very good at what you do and critical of others' work if it does not meet your high standards.

You generally are in a positive frame of mind and have the ability to express yourself well. You could be successful in speaking, lecturing, writing or acting. You also might be interested in issues of health, diet etc. and may consider a profession in the medical field.
Chapter 5: Emotions: Moods, Feelings, Romance
Moon in Taurus:
Even-tempered and peace-loving, you are not easily ruffled and are rarely given to emotional displays. You have a calming effect on more high-strung or volatile people, and an emotional steadiness that others find soothing. Though gentle and not easily provoked, you are tremendously stubborn and will resist any change which requires an emotional adjustment, such as changes in your home life or marriage.
You seek security and loyalty in love, are extremely devoted to your loved ones, and provide a warm, nurturing atmosphere for them. However, you tend to cling and seek to keep others from changing.
A great deal of physical affection, closeness, and touching is essential to your well-being, and you have a tendency to overindulge in sensual comforts and pleasures. At times you substitute food for emotional comfort and love.

Though you want closeness very much, you often close yourself off and do not really trust others who may wish to get to know you. You are very wholehearted in your feelings and responses to people, and you want all or nothing from the people you care for.

You often feel that you must do something or be something other than what you are in order to receive approval and acceptance from others. You are very sensitive to criticism and easily feel left out or neglected, and though you may appear cool or distant, you actually care very much about being included. Because you are so sensitive, it may seem easier for you to withdraw into a shell rather than risk the emotional bumps and bruises that can occur when you let others really know you in an intimate, personal way. Your reserve and caution make establishing a close emotional rapport with others difficult for you, and you become very attached to the few people you consider "real friends". You can gain inner security and strength through periods of solitude if you view them as times to nourish yourself and develop your own interests, rather than as times of loneliness.

In addition to your rather introverted, serious, or self-contained side, you have a wild streak and urge for emotional freedom that breaks through erratically. You crave both stability and excitement, and the conflict between these two impulses can make you rather tense and irritable. However, they can also balance one another. You are uninhibited and spontaneous and will often do something unexpected or humorous in order to loosen people up and get them out of their ruts. You crave emotional stimulation, excitement, surprises, and anything new. You love to feel free and unfettered.

The beauty and harmony of your surroundings has a very powerful effect on your emotions. You are very sensitive and cannot stand to be in an atmosphere where there is discord or dissonance. Chapter 6: Drive and Ambition: How You Achieve Your Goals
Mars in Cancer:
You avoid direct confrontation as much as possible and are uncomfortable with aggressiveness, competition, and personal power. Your ego drive is not very strong and you are not especially ambitious or eager to push your way to the top. You may feel inadequate in situations that call for strong, forceful action. The only instance in which you will really fight is when you feel your loved ones, or something dear to you, is being harmed, for then you are a fierce defender. You have a very strong protective side. You act on impulse and instinct and may lash out at anyone you perceive as threatening to your home or family. However, you will rarely initiate a confrontation. Your goals also tend to be very personal and centered around family closeness and inner satisfaction rather than worldly achievement.
You are sensitive to stress and do not handle a high-pressured, competitive atmosphere very well. You are very touchy, irritable, and difficult to live with when there are many demands or tensions at work. Your energy level is inconstant and is very much dependent upon the emotional harmony (or lack of it) in your home. A supportive partner is of great benefit to you in helping you achieve your goals and desires.

Chapter 8: Areas That Challenge You Or Are Difficult For You
Saturn in Aquarius:
You have an innate distrust of groups and/or a cynical attitude toward society that may leave you feeling out of step and unable to participate in activities with your peers. Overcoming a sense of aloofness and alienation from others is an important task for you.
Saturn in 4th house:
Your childhood or your relationship with your parents was restrictive, unloving, or unhappy in ways that may prevent you from allowing other people to get close to you in later life. You felt deprived in some manner, whether or not you actually were deprived in some way. Emotional separations or repression of your needs and feelings may typify your early life, at least as you remember it. Forgiving your parents and/or letting go of any resentments you have about the limitations you experienced early in your life is crucial. Also, you need to build your own solid foundation, and investing time and energy into your home, domestic relationships, and inner life can help you accomplish this.
Saturn Opposition Sun/Mars
Your vitality tends to be a bit low and you may have to fight against the tendency to be inactive. Easily discouraged, you are inclined toward pessimism. Perhaps your upbringing was too authoritative, causing problems with your father.
Saturn Opposition Mercury/Mars
A deep thinker, you have good powers of concentration. But you think slowly and take your time making decisions, which are likely to be based on practical and economical methods. Having little to say, you prefer to talk about serious or sad things.

You have a sense of duty and responsibility, but may find it difficult to make up your mind and come to a decision. Somewhat slow to act, and your need to be fully prepared, inclines you to let good opportunities slip away at times.

It is easy for you to become distracted from your purpose by the multitude of interesting choices, possibilities, and options available to you. You need to develop single mindedness and focus. Having an overall vision for your life and aligning your daily activities so that they support rather than detract from your larger purpose, is a significant step in your unfoldment.

The arena you are most likely to wrestle with these issues is in the way you think, process information, and communicate. In your interactions with neighbors, colleagues, and acquaintances, try to bring out the qualities described above.
Chapter 9: Originality and ImaginationAreas Where You Are Creative, Unique, Unstable, or Compulsive
Uranus in 3rd house:
You grasp new concepts quickly and are interested in new technologies, discoveries, and innovations. Unconventional ideas and creative, original approaches to problems are very attractive to you also. You are easily bored and may have trouble concentrating on one idea or task at a time. You have an inventive mind.
Neptune in 4th house:
Your childhood and early home life were colored by a great deal of confusion or by people with unusually active imaginations, aspirations, or fantasies. It is difficult for you to see your childhood and your relationship with your parents in a clear, realistic light. You may search for the ideal, loving home you wish you had, or believe you had, when you were a child. Finding inner peace and a sense of emotional security within yourself is important to you.

You are likely to have a fixation on money, wealth, and material resources. You may totally renounce material desires and ownership, or become obsessed with having, owning, and accumulating.
